Bhubaneswar: Rajya Sabha Member and Union Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs and Statistics & Programme Implementation, Vijay Goel on Thursday conferred the FICCI Smart Policing Awards 2018 to the Odisha Police in recognition of its initiative on community policing, at a glittering function in New Delhi.
IPS Officer Sara Sharma received the award.
“The Odisha Police has launched a series of initiatives for the successful implementation of some of the programmes of the state government like ‘Paree Paeen Kathatie,’ Mo Sathi’ etc for the marginalised sections and to motive, encourage and empower the women. In recognition of its initiative in the implementation of the state-sponsored programmes, the State Police has received the award on community policing,” Sharma told reporters after receiving the award.
Goel encouraged efforts of the police and its smart measures in dealing with crimes. Expressing concern over the negative image of police among the masses, the Minister said police should work towards winning the confidence of the public.
He said the technology-driven measures will definitely help improving the efficiency of the armed forces.
The two-day event was concluded on Thursday.
Over 200 entries were received in various categories including safety for child, women, elders, road and cyber crime and community policing.
