Odisha Police Rescues 10 Missing Children From West Bengal

Bhubaneswar: Police have traced 10 children, who had gone missing from Odisha, and rescued them from different parts of West Bengal.

According to sources, the Crime against Women and Children Wing of Odisha Police came to know about the children during investigation into their missing complaints. The Missing Persons Monitoring Unit (MPMU) of the wing finalised the exact location of the children on October 30.

DSP Sarat Chandra Patra, leading a team of the MPMU including ASIs CS Nanda and P Sahoo and police officer Satya Ranjan Swain went to West Bengal and rescued the children from Howrah, Kolkata and Paschim Medinapore.

The rescued children, who are in age group of 6-17 years, belong to Cuttack, Bhadrak, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Balasore, Khurda and Jajpur districts. They were produced before the Child Welfare Committee, Khurda and sent to various short stay homes.

Three of the rescued children had got separated from their families in train, while some had left their homes and others had gone missing. Some of them were engaged as child labourers in the neighbouring state, the sources said.
