Balangir: The police on Sunday seized around 22 kg of ganja (cannabis) from an SUV bearing a registration number plate with ‘International Human Rights’ written on it. The ganja was seized by Tusura police in Odisha’s Balangir district.
The police arrested three men, all hailing from Madhya Pradesh, in this connection. The drug smugglers have been identified as Deepak Patel (23), Pramod Patel (23) and Gaya Prasad Patel (39).
Sources said that the vehicle was intercepted on Tusura Road when it was heading towards the Nuapada district. The police chased the SUV acting on a tip-off, before intercepting it as the accused tried to rush through the Dhanaghara bypass.
On searching the SUV, police found the ganja and seized it. A case has been registered against the three accused and later they were forwarded to court.
An ID card of an ‘International Human Rights Member’ was seized from one of the accused.
