Bhubaneswar: In a new development in the Odisha Police Sub-Inspector (SI) recruitment examination scam, the role of a senior IPS officer appears to have come under the scanner of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
In a communication from the CBI in course of investigation in the high-profile case, it has been pointed out that 10993-batch IPS officer Susanta Kumar Nath had served as the Chairman of the Odisha Police Recruitment Board (OPRB), which was responsible for conducting the recruitment examination for the posts of Police SI and equivalent positions.
The examination was scheduled to be held on October 5 and 6, 2025. However, allegations of irregularities in the recruitment process prompted the authorities to entrust investigation in the case to the CBI.
The investigation by the central agency covers the entire examination process rather than confining to the role of individuals. The role of the agency engaged to conduct the examination, the OPRB and other persons associated with the recruitment process is also being examined.
According to reports, the CBI has communicated details of the status of investigation to the Odisha government through an official letter. The development has brought renewed attention to the functioning of the recruitment board and the responsibilities of those holding key positions during the examination process.
While sources indicate that the CBI may quiz some more people as part of its ongoing investigation, it was not clear whether Nath will also be questioned by the central agency.
