Bhubaneswar: In a significant symbolic step towards strengthening coastal security, the National Flag is set to will fly at major stretches along Odisha’s coastline January 26.
This initiative aims to instil a sense of national pride while deterring infiltrators along the state’s 480 km-long coastline.
Sources said the Odisha police have decided to unfurl the national flag at major stretches along the state’s 480-km-long coastline from Jan 26. Police said the move seeks to foster patriotic sentiment while serving as a deterrent to unauthorised entrants along the coast.
Director General of Police (DGP) Y B Khurania has held discussion on the extensive security arrangements being made to protect the state’s coastline. At least 70 places have been identified through a drone survey along the coast requiring prompt security attention.
Police units are presently conducting thorough inspections at these sites, marking the initial stage of a broader security enhancement programme.
As per the DGP, flying the tricolour is a symbolic effort to assert sovereignty and create a psychological deterrent against potential infiltrators, especially in the backdrop of the turmoil in neighbouring Bangladesh.
Flying the National Flag on islands is a common feature in other parts of the country, though Odisha will be seeing this happening for the first time.
