Bhubaneswar: A Sub-Inspector was suspended on Thursday for cheating a woman and threatening to kill her.
According to the complaint filed by the woman, SI of Capital police station Rakesh Samal came in contact with her on social media last year. Soon they came close to each other and stayed in a rented house in the Capital.
Promising to marry the woman, who works in a private company here, Samal established physical relationship with her. When she became pregnant in January 2020, she wanted Samal to marry her. But the SI beat her up and threatened to kill her if she did not abort the pregnancy.
The woman alleged that Samal had taken Rs 5 lakh from her and stopped contacting her from March. She had filed the complaint at Mahila police station, but she was told that the case would be taken up after withdrawal of lockdown. So she approached Commissioner of Police.
Police Commissioner Sudhanshu Sarangi said appropriate action would be taken against the accused who has been absconding for one month.
