Bhubaneswar: Ahead of dual elections in Odisha, former MP and veteran leader from Kalahandi district Dhaneswar Majhi quit BJD and joined BJP on Friday.
Majhi, who was a Rajya Sabha member and was elected for five times from Kesinga and Narla Assembly constituencies in the district, was welcomed to BJP at a function in party office in Bhubaneswar.
Former state BJP president Samir Mohanty, vice-president Biranchi Narayan Tripathy, secretary Saroj Kar and former minister Surama Padhi were present at the function.
Majhi said he joined BJP as he has confidence in Prime Minister Narendra Modi for taking the country to newer heights. While the BJP under the leadership of Modi is working for overall development of Odisha, the BJD has become major impediment on the path, he added.
