Bargarh: As part of pre-election drive, police have seized more than 40 cartons of IMFL from a vehicle while being illegally transported in Odisha’s Bargarh district.
Speaking to media persons here on Monday, Bargarh SDPO Padarabind Tripathy said they got reliable information about illegal transportation of the Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) in Bargarh town. It was kept in a pick-up van inside Krushak Bazaar near the cattle market of the town.
On the direction of district SP Prahalad Sahai Meena, a police team conduted raid on the Krushak Bazaar and checked the vehicle. They found the IMFL bottles of different reputed brands inside 43 carton boxes. The seized liquor was estimated at more than Rs 2 lakh.
The police team seized the liquor bottles besides a refrigerator and a motorcycle from the spot. They also arrested three persons in this connection. All the arrested persons belong to Bargarh district, the SDPO said.
It may be noted that on the direction of the Election Commission of India (ECI), police have been carrying out strict checking of the vehicles for illegal transportation of liquor, drugs, intoxication substances and other materials before the simultaneous elections to Lok Sabha and Assembly in the state.
