Bhubaneswar: With electioneering gaining momentum as the first phase of dual elections in Odisha comes closer, Congress leaders Rahul Gandh and Priyanka Gandhi will join the party candidates in the campaign in the state in May.
Speaking to media persons on Monday, Odisha in-charge of Congress Ajoy Kumar and chairman of party campaign committee Bhakta Das said Rahul will attend a public meeting in Rayagada on May 3. He will be accompanied by Telangana chief minister A Revanth Reddy.
Rahul will address a mega rally to be attended by 1 lakh locals and party workers. Rayagda Assembly segment comes under Koraput Lok Sabha seat where Saptagiri Ulaka is contesting as Congress candidate. Rahul will also attend a party workers’ meeting to encourage them and boost their confidence for the campaign ahead, sources said.
It will be Rahul’s second visit to the state in connection with elections. He had had kick-started Congress campaign for the Lok Sabha and Assembly elections at Salepur in Cuttack district on Sunday.
Addressing a public meeting there, he had claimed that though BJD and BJP are fighting the electoral battle against each other, in reality, they were working together.
Similarly, Priyanka will attend a public meeting in Nabarangpur on May 5 or 9. The exact date will be finalised later, said Das.
