Bhubaneswar: With the depression moving towards Chhattisgarh, intensity of rainfall in Odisha is likely to subside after two days, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said on Friday.
The depression over south Chhattisgarh and adjoining south interior Odisha moved north-north-westwards and lay centred over the same region. It is likely to continue to move north-north-westwards and maintain its intensity of depression during next 12 hours and weaken into a well-marked low pressure area during subsequent 12 hours.
Heavy to very heavy rain is likely to continue in several parts of Odisha till the morning of September 27. The IMD has issued orange and yellow warnings for different districts during the period.
An orange warning of heavy to very heavy rain has been issued for Sundaragada, Jharsuguda, Baragada, Sambalpur, Kendujhar, Mayurbhanj, Nuapada and Nabarangpur districts during the next 24 hours.
This apart, thunderstorm with lightning and gusty surface wind reaching up to 50-60 kmph is also likely to occur over these eight districts.
The IMD has issued a yellow warning of heavy rain at some places over the districts of Baleshwar, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Jagatsinghapur, Kataka, Debagada, Anugola, Dhenkanal, Subarnapur, Balangir, Kalahandi, Rayagada, Koraput and Malkangiri.
Thunderstorm with lightning and gusty surface wind reaching up to 40-50 kmph is likely at one or two places over the same districts.
On September 26-27, a yellow warning of heavy rain is has been issued in the districts of Sundaragada, Jharsuguda and Baragada, along with thunderstorm, lightning and gusty surface wind reaching up to 40-50 kmph.
As gusty wind is likely to prevail along and off Odisha coast along with rough sea, fishermen have been advised not to venture into the sea for next 12 hours.
