Bhubaneswar: As heavy downpour triggered by formation of back-to-back low pressure systems in the region pounded many parts of Odisha in last few days, Thuamul Rampur in Kalahandi district recorded maximum rainfall of 370 mm in the past 24 hours.
Thuamul Rampur was closely followed by Kotpad in Koraput district which recorded around 293 mm rainfall, while K Nuagaon in Kandhamal received around 235.4 mm during the period, official sources said.
Similarly, Kalampur in Kalahandi recorded 220 mm rainfall, while Dabugan in Nabarangpur, Baliguda in Kandhamal, Batagaon in Sambalpur and Madanpur Rampur in Kalahandi district received rainfall ranging between 200 and 210 mm, the sources said.
As many as 7 places in the state recorded rainfall of 200 mm and above, while over 50 locations received rainfall between 100 and 200 mm in the past 24 hours, they said.
Following torrential rains in most parts of the state, several rivers including Mahanadi are now in spate worsening the plight of people. Flood water of Mahanadi has already entered several low-lying areas after being released from the Hirakud dam.
Several remote villages in the state are disconnected from the outer world and acres of lands of crops were damaged due to the flood-like situation.
Though the intensity of rainfall in the state has subsided, heavy rainfall is likely to occur at some places over the districts of Nabarangpur, Jharsuguda, Bargarh and Nuapada up to Tuesday, the Meteorological Centre here said.
While the depression has moved to Chhattisgarh, southwest monsoon has been vigorous over Odisha bringing rainfall in different parts of Odisha.
