Bhubaneswar: Odisha has added another feather to its hat by bagging the fifth position in Niti Aayog’s Export Preparedness Index 2020 in overall rankings.
The state has an export preparedness of 58.23 points, according to the government think tank’s report released on Wednesday.
In the category-wise ranking, the state clinched the fourth position in the ‘Coastal’ category.
The index ranked the state on four key parameters – Export Ecosystem Pillar (2) with 65.94 as scores, Policy Pillar (11) with 71.29, Business Ecosystem Pillar (11) with 55.81, and Export Performance Pillar (11) with 42.29.
The state also topped in exporting items like Aluminium Ingots, followed by Ferro-Chromium Carbon Counting, Alumina Calcined, Iron-ore pellets and other shrimps and prawns.
Meanwhile, Gujarat has topped the index followed by Maharashtra and Tamil Nadu in the second and third places respectively.
Chief Executive Officer, NITI Aayog Amitabh Kant said, “The Export Preparedness Index is a data-driven effort to identify the core areas crucial for export promotion at the sub-national level. All the states and union territories have been assessed on crucial parameters that are critical for any typical economic unit to achieve sustainable export growth. The Index would be a helpful guide for the state governments to benchmark regional performance with respect to export promotion and thus deliver key policy insights on how to improve and enhance the same.”
The index also took into consideration 11 sub-pillars — Export Promotion Policy; Institutional Framework; Business Environment; Infrastructure; Transport Connectivity; Access to Finance; Export Infrastructure; Trade Support; R&D Infrastructure; Export Diversification; and Growth Orientation.
