Odisha Readying For Morning Schools Amid Severe Heatwave

Bhubaneswar: With severe heatwave sweeping Odisha, the state government on Sunday said that a plan to hold morning classes in schools is under active consideration to protect the students from extreme temperatures.

School and Mass Education Minister Nityananda Gond said that morning schools is likely to commence very soon in the state in view the intense heatwave.

Notably, entire state has been experiencing a sharp rise in day temperatures with the mercury soaring above normal level in several districts.

Stating that the government is aware of the rising temperatures and is closely monitoring the situation, the Minister said a discussion will be held with the Revenue and Disaster Management Department regarding the commencement of morning school sessions.

After a detailed discussion, a final decision will be taken on rescheduling school timings to protect the students from extreme heat conditions.

It may be noted that the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted further rise in temperatures in the coming weeks, raising concerns over student safety during school hours. Prolonged exposure to extreme heat can lead to health hazards, prompting the authorities to review existing school schedules.

The state has implemented morning school schedules during summer months in the past also.
