Odisha Received 7% Surplus Rainfall This Year: IMD

Bhubaneswar: Odisha has received 7 per cent more than average rainfall this year, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said on Wednesday, a day after the south-west monsoon retreated from the entire state on Tuesday.

Also on Wednesday, the monsoon completely withdrew from the whole entire country, IMD added.

The director of the Meteorological Centre, Bhubaneswar, HR Biswas, informed that the most delayed withdrawal of the monsoon in Odisha was in 2010, when it completely withdrew from the state on October 28.

Going by the data between 1958 and 2018, Biswas said the normal withdrawal date of monsoon in Odisha has been around mid-October except in the years 1973, 1975 and 2010 when the withdrawal had begun in the last week of October.

He, however, said that despite the withdrawal of the monsoon, the onset of winter in Odisha will be delayed as the dew point temperature in the state is expected to hover around 21 degree Celsius till October 19.

Meanwhile, rainfall has started in Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Kerala and the adjoining areas of Andhra Pradesh under the influence of the north-east monsoon (return monsoon).
