Odisha Receives Pre-Monsoon Showers; Heavy Rain Forecast Till June 12

Bhubaneswar: While Odisha received pre-monsoon showers on Tuesday, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has heavy to very heavy rain in the next 48 hours.

The IMD, in a mid-day bulletin, said a low-pressure area, which is likely to form over the north Bay of Bengal around June 11, will push the monsoon further and trigger heavy rainfall. The south-west monsoon is expected to hit the Odisha coast in 2-3 days, it added.

Under the influence of a trough running from East Uttar Pradesh to northeast Bay of Bengal across south Bihar and Gangetic West Bengal, thunderstorm accompanied by lightning is likely to occur in most parts of north and south coastal districts and some parts iof western districts for three days till June 10.

There will be heavy rainfall across the state from the afternoon of June 10 with extremely heavy rainfall at one or two places, which will continue for four days till June 14.

In view of the thundershower and heavy rainfall, IMD has issued yellow and orange warnings for the following districts.

June 8
(Yellow warning)
Heavy rainfall at one or two places in Malkangiri, Koraput, Nabarangpur, Nuapada and Mayurbhanj.

Thunderstorm with lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 40-50 kmph at one or two places in Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Nabarangpur, Rayagada, Koraput, Malkangiri, Boudh, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar and Mayurbhanj.

June 9
(Yellow warning)
Heavy rainfall at one or two places in Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Bhadrak, Nabarangpur and Koraput.

Thunderstorm with lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 40-50 kmph at one or two places in Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Jharsuguda, Sundargarh, Deogarh, Angul,  Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Dhenkanal and Kandhamal.

June 10
(Yellow warning)
Heavy to very heavy rainfall at one or two places in Angul, Dhenkanal, Jajpur, Bhadrak,  Cuttack, Boudh and Kandhamal.

Heavy rainfall at one or two places in Balasore, Kendrapada, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Kalahandi, Keonjhar and Mayurbhanj.

Thunderstorm with lightning at one or two places in Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul,  Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Sonepur, Boudh, Nayagarh, Khurda, Ganjam and Puri.

June 11
(Orange warning)
Heavy to very heavy rainfall at a few places with extremely heavy falls at one or two places in Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Dhenkanal and Angul.

(Yellow warning)
Heavy rainfall at one or two places in Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj  Ganjam, Kandhamal, Boudh, Sonepur, Balangir, Kalahandi, Nabarangpur, Malkangiri, Koraput and Nayagarh.

June 12
(Orange warning)
Heavy to very heavy rainfall at a few places with extremely heavy falls at one or two places in Balangir, Sonepur, Sambalpur, Bargarh, Boudh, Kalahandi and Nuapada.

(Yellow warning)
Heavy to very heavy rainfall very at one or two places in Angul, Dhenkanal, Kandhamal, Deogarh, Jharsuguda, Nabarangpur, Malkangiri, Koraput.

Heavy rainfall at one or two places in Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Sundargarh, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati and Rayagada.

Due to heavy to very heavy rainfall, there will be water-logging and localised/flash flood in some places resulting in the damage of horticultural crops/vegetables. Besides, there will be some damage to informal/kutcha road and traffic congestion and disruption of municipal services due to water-logging in urban areas, the IMD said.

Due to the inclement weather, the fishermen are advised not to venture into the deep sea in the central Bay of Bengal and adjoining north Bay of Bengal on June 10 and along and off the Odisha coast and north Bay of Bengal adjoining the west-central Bay of Bengal from June 11 till further notice as the squally weather with surface wind speed reaching 40-50 kmph gusting to 60 kmph over the central Bay of Bengal adjoining north Bay of Bengal will make the sea condition rough to very rough.
