Bhubaneswar: Odisha can expect some respite from the scorching heat with the regional centre of the India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicting the onset of monsoon in a couple of days. The maximum temperature is also likely to fall by 3 to 4 degree Celsius during the next three days.
“Conditions are favourable for further advance of monsoon into some more parts of Vidarbha and Telengana, some more parts of Andhra Pradesh, Westcentral & northwest Bay of Bengal, some parts of Odisha, Gangetic West Bengal, Jharkhand, entire SubHimalayan West Bengal and some more parts of Bihar during the next 2-3 days,” the MeT office said in its mid-day bulletin.
IMD senior scientist RK Jenamani said that some parts of the eastern states of Odisha, Jharkhand, West Bengal and Bihar received pre-monsoon showers on Tuesday. “Monsoon usually covers Odisha by June 17 every year and a delay of seven days is considered normal. A few places in the state received pre-monsoon showers. Balasore, Jajpur and Kendrapada experienced good thunderstorm activity yesterday. We are monitoring the situation. Conditions are favourable for the arrival of monsoon in some parts of Odisha in the next two days,” he added.
Monsoon arrived in Odisha on June 10 last year.
While several places in Odisha are likely to experience light to moderate rain during the next few days, the IMD has also issued yellow warning for thunderstorm with lightning till 8.30 am on June 19.
