Bhubaneswar: In a significant leap towards preventive healthcare and family empowerment, Odisha has emerged as a frontrunner in the nationwide ‘Swasth Nari, Sashakt Parivar Abhiyaan.’

Inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on September 17 in Madhya Pradesh, the initiative was simultaneously launched in Odisha at the IDCO Exhibition Ground in Bhubaneswar.

An official statement said in Tuesday that Odisha has already organised an astounding 52,942 health camps, drawing a massive footfall of 28.46 lakh beneficiaries in just seven days.

As part of accessible medical screening and care drive, over 8,000 facility-level camps were conducted daily across districts. The campaign focuses on early detection of non-communicable diseases, maternal and child health, and community wellness, aligning perfectly with the national vision of a healthier India.

Key highlights from the first week include comprehensive screenings that have reached lakhs of people. A total of 1.45 lakh individuals were screened for hypertension, 1.42 lakh for diabetes, 57,000 for oral cancer, 59,000 for breast cancer, and 28,000 for cervical cancer. Additionally, 1.27 lakh were tested for anaemia, 1.21 lakh for tuberculosis, and 1.71 lakh for sickle cell anaemia. Maternal and child services were a major pillar, with over 2.18 lakh beneficiaries receiving antenatal care (ANC) and immunisation.

This apart, the campaign witnessed community participation through specialised drives. Blood donation camps numbered 263, yielding 17,863 units of blood. Adolescent health took centre stage with menstrual hygiene counselling provided to 2.93 lakh girls, while nutrition and care sessions benefited 2.53 lakh people, a statement from the Chief Minister’s Office said.

Members of Parliament have actively participated in the specialist camps, motivating and encouraging community engagement at different locations across the state.

Odisha’s proactive implementation reflects its commitment to preventive care and family wellness, aligning with the campaign’s vision of a healthier, empowered nation, it added.
