Urban Polls: Odisha Records 45% Voter Turnout Till 3 PM

Bhubaneswar: Till 3 pm, 45 per cent polling was recorded across Odisha in the ongoing elections to 109 urban local bodies, including three municipal corporations, on Thursday, informed Secretary of State Election Commission.

The voting was mostly smooth with sporadic incidents of violence reported from different districts.

The voting seems to have gained pace after 12 pm when 21 per cent of polling was recorded in the three Municipal Corporations and 32 per cent turnout was reported in the ULBs.

The polling began at 8 am, amid tight security and will continue till 5 pm.

Over 40.55 lakh voters are to exercise their franchise and decide the political fate of 6411 candidates , including 569 contesting for the post of Mayor/Chairperson and 5842 for Corporator/Councillor post.
