Odisha Researchers Develop Device That Can Measure Heartbeats Of Plants

Sambalpur: In a scientific breakthrough that can revolutionise the concept of environmental protection, three young scientists from Odisha have invented a device that can measure heartbeats of trees.

Akshaya Kumar, a lecturer of Mishrathe Mahamaya Degree College, Dr. Pradosh Acharya, a Professor of Gangadhar Meher University and researcher Aishwarya Khamari of Sambalpur University have developed a machine called ‘Rhythm meter for plant’ that can check the heartbeats of all plants.

The machine can also provide data about plants’ biological clocks, biological rhythm and nutrient uptake. Besides, it can measure the nutritional value of pond water which can help the fish farmers.

The project has made it to the top four category of Rural Experience Programme in 3M-CII Young Innovators Challenge Award.

In 2012, Mishra in collaboration with another young scientist Samir Bhoi had invented a machine ‘Electrolyter 1005’, for which he was awarded by Indian Science of Congress and Indian Association of Microbiology.
