Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Human Rights Commission (OHRC) has sought a report from Balangir SP over the alleged torture of an elderly person by the OIC of Salebhata Outpost of Loisingha police station.
Taking suo motu cognizance of news reports, the rights panels directed the SP to submit the report and posted the next hearing for December 29.
According to sources, the elderly man reportedly lost his senses following the assault and was initially admitted to the primary health centre at Loisingha. He was shifted to Bhima Bhoi Medical College & Hospital, Balangir, as his condition became critical. He was admitted to the ICU of the hospital and regained his senses after two days.
Quoting news reports, the OHRC notice said that the victim’s brother had lodged a complaint with the police with regard to a dispute over landed property. Following this, the victim was called to the police station and subjected to physical torture.
