Odisha Rolls Out App To Collect Road Mishap Data

Bhubaneswar: Commerce and Transport Minister Padmanabha Behera has launched an Integrated Road Accident Database (IRAD) application for collecting accident data on the spot in Odisha.

The new app is part of an initiative by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MORTH) and supported by the World Bank.

The app, will also help in analyzing the causes of road accidents and help reduce fatalities.

Speaking at the launch on Sunday, the minister said the programme aims to maintain a national database of road accidents. The app will help to establish accurate and uniform ccident data collection to improvr road safety in Odisha.

The system would represent the analysis output through monitoring and reporting dashboard and analytics dashboard for easy understanding and accordingly forecasting and decision making by apex authorities for the formulation of new policies and strategies.

Speaking on the occasion, Principal Secretary, Commerce and Transport Madhu Sudan Padhi said that these descriptions will assist the government to reform driving rules, conditions of the road, ensure safety measures on district roads and highways and create conditions for prompt disposal of registered road accident cases.

The app will also enable police, Transport, Public Works Department (PWD) and the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) to use their mobile phones to collect accident data on the spot and facilitate the timely exchange of information.

For implementation and training of this application, the National Informatics Centre (NIC) has appointed District Roll-out Principal Secretary, Commerce and Transport Manager (DRM) in every district.

Apart from Odisha, the project was also launched in Chhattisgarh, Kerala, Meghalaya, Himachal Pradesh and Haryana.
