Rourkela: Makru bridge across river Makru in Tamenglong district of Manipur has an Odisha connection. Steel for construction of the bridge was supplied from SAIL’s Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP).
The steel plant supplied 986 tonne of high tensile E410 grade New Plate Mill plates for construction of the bridge that is one of the key connectivity points on Imphal-Jiribam highway (NH 37). This will improve connectivity between Assam and Manipur, stated SAIL sources.
The plates rolled out in the state-of-the-art New Plate Mill of RSP has been used in several other mega bridge projects like the Chenab bridge and Mahatma Gandhi Setu, among others.
RSP has been reinforcing its place as a committed contributor in nation building endeavours under Atmanirbhar Bharat by providing steel for some structures of national importance.
The bridge was inaugurated by Minister for Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari on July 12.
