Dhenkanal: Chinmay Das, husband of Samiti member candidate Bharati Rath for Sankulei Panchayat in Odisha’s Dhenkanal district, who had been missing since Wednesday night, was rescued in an unconscious state from farmland near Bajichowk under Town police limits on Friday.

He has been admitted to the district headquarters hospital (DHH) here in critical condition.

A resident of Kumardeipur, Chinmay had left for Bebarta Kateni on a two-wheeler for some work after dropping his wife home at the end of electioneering. Later, he called her wife and informed her about having been thrashed by some miscreants midway. His phone was found switched off thereafter.

His vehicle was found on Dholpasi-Sankulei road the following morning with bloodstains on it. Sadar Police launched a search operation after his wife lodged a missing complaint the same day.

Notably, voting began in this panchayat at 7 am on Friday.
