Odisha Sarpanch’s Husband Stabbed To Death Near Panchayat Office; Police Detain Two


Bhawanipatna: Police in Odisha’s Kalahandi district have detained two suspects in connection with the murder of senior BJP leader Fakir Rana, while efforts are underway to nab two other absconding accused.

Rana, the husband of Dam Karlakhunta Sarpanch Snigdha Rana, was stabbed to death by unidentified assailants on Wednesday evening near the panchayat office under Madanpur Rampur police limits.

According to sources, the attack took place around 8 pm after Rana had attended a meeting with supporters at the panchayat office. As he was leaving the premises, a group of miscreants ambushed him and stabbed him repeatedly with knives before fleeing the scene. Local residents rescued the critically injured Rana and rushed him to the Madanpur Rampur Community Health Centre, where doctors declared him dead on arrival.

Madanpur Rampur police, along with the Kesinga Sub-Divisional Police Officer, soon. reached the spot, seized the body and launched a detailed investigation. The two suspects were detained on a basis of a complaint lodged by the sarpanch, naming four individuals from Karlakhunta village, alleging their involvement due to past enmity.

Police added that all angles, including previous personal animosity cited in the complaint, as well as potential political rivalry, business disputes, family conflicts or issues related to tender and contract work, are being thoroughly probed as the search for the absconding accused continued.
