Bhubaneswar: Odisha saw 245 elephant deaths during the last three years, said Forest & Environment Minister Pradip Kumar Amat told the Assembly on Tuesday.
Replying to a question by Khandapada MLA Soumya Ranjan Patnaik, the minister said that six of these elephants were killed by poachers but no tiger death was reported during this period.
Amat further said that 47 persons were arrested for their alleged involvement in killing elephants and smuggling tusks and tiger hides. Total 39 tusks, one tiger hide and nine tiger nails were recovered from the accused, he added.
