Odisha Saw Highest COVID Deaths In May, But Lowest Fatality Rate In Country

Bhubaneswar: The COVID-19 claimed 723 lives in May, the highest in a month since the beginning of the pandemic last year.

While May 31 saw the most deaths with 35 patients succumbing to the virus, the average per day fatalities stood at 23.

The toll had mounted to 2,054 on May 2 after 14 patients succumbed to the infection in 24 hours. By June 1, the fatalities had climbed to 2791. A total of 3,19,125 cases were reported during this period.

Despite this spike, the COVID fatality rate (CFR) in Odisha was the lowest in the country at 0.22 per cent.

Delhi reported the highest CFR of 2.9 per cent, followed by Punjab and Uttrakhand at 2.8 per cent and 2.7 per cent respectively, the India Today reported.

All India CRF was 1.3 per cent. India reported over 3,400 deaths every day with the highest single-day toll recorded on May 19 at 4,529, it added.
