Bhubaneswar: With the state government making amendment to the Odisha Zilla Parishad Election Rules, 1994, the State Election Commission (SEC) is set to announce new guidelines for the indirect election to the zilla parishad (ZP) president and vice-president posts.
As per the amended rules, all parties participating in the election and the election officer would appoint their agents for the election. It has also been made mandatory for the ZP members to show their votes to the agents before putting those into the ballot box.
According to sources, the political parties will have to submit details about their agents to the electoral officer a day before the election. The elected ZP member can submit nomination papers for contesting for the president and vice-president posts on the election day.
After scrutiny and withdrawal of the nominations, voting will be held from 1.30 pm to 4 pm and then the result will be declared.
The elections to the post of ZP president is scheduled on March 13 and to vice-president on March 13 25.
