Odisha Seeks Rs 39.59 Cr From EESL Over Defective LED Street Lights

Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government has sought reimbursement of Rs 39.59 crore from Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL) towards the replacement co

st of defective LED street lights and CCMS units installed in Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) across the state.

Sources said that the Housing and Urban Development (H&UD) Department has asked EESL to reimburse the amount, accusing it of having failed to replace defective lights and equipment despite repeated notices issued by the authorities concerned.

The ULB officials and independent engineers reportedly conducted a joint field survey and found 45,489 LED lights and 2,509 CCMS units defective, officials said.

The state government had reportedly terminated the contract with the EESL for the LED public street lighting project in June, 2023.

However, the state government has reserved its right to claim warranty costs for defective items covered under the seven-year warranty period.
