Bhubaneswar: People should get tested for COVID-19 even if case of high fever and cold as coronavirus symptoms are changing, said DMET Rama Raman Mohanty here on Tuesday.
He, however, said the symptom manifestation is low due to full vaccination among the residents of the capital city, he added.
The senior health officer suggested this after 53 girl students of a government school in Odisha’s Sundargarh tested positive for the virus. In another incident, 22 students of VIMSAR at Burla in Sambalpur district also tested positive for COVID-19.
Following the outbreak of new cases after the reopening of educational institutions, Director, Odisha Public Health, Niranjan Mishra suggested that students having any COVID symptoms should not attend school.
The Health Director also asked the school and college authorities to keep a close eye on students with symptoms and take necessary action. Mishra said school students are more vulnerable than college students as they are vaccinated.
In Sundargarh, the local administration and school authorities have put the COVID positive students in isolation, he added. However, the school and college students and authorities should follow all the COVID guidelines strictly to check the spread of the virus, said Mishra.
Notably, 22 first-year MBBS students of VIMSAR-Burla and 53 of a government-aided girl’s high school in Odisha’s Sundargarh have tested positive for COVID-19.
Likewise, nine hostel boarders of Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya at Konark in Odisha’s Puri district had also tested positive for the virus on Sunday.
