Odisha Set For Rainy Durga Puja! Low Pressure Likely Around Mid-October

Bhubaneswar: A low-pressure system is likely to develop over the Bay of Bengal around mid-October, raising the likelihood of rainfall activity in Odisha during Durga Puja celebrations.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has indicated a possibility of cyclogenesis around the middle of October.

According to the IMD’s extended-range outlook for cyclogenesis over the North Indian Ocean, an upper-air cyclonic circulation is likely to emerge over the North Andaman Sea around October 12. Under its influence, a low-pressure area is expected form over the Andaman Sea around October 13.

The IMD has assessed a low probability of 1 to 33 per cent for the system to intensify into a depression over the central parts of the South Bay of Bengal and adjoining central Bay of Bengal around October 15.

At present, the forecast is at an early stage. The probable track and intensity of the system will become clearer as it develops and the date approaches.

The possible weather development comes ahead of Durga Puja, which begins in Odisha on October 16. If the system strengthens and moves closer to the Odisha coast, it could affect weather conditions during the festive period. However, the possible movement of the system and its impact on Odisha will become clear at a later stage.

There is no significant rainfall expected in Odisha until October 15. However, rainfall may increase around October 17-18, with the possible depression likely to remain near the coast during Dussehra.
