Odisha Shocker: Infants Turn Up Abandoned, Dead In State

Bhubaneswar: In a shocking and heart wrenching trend, newborns and infants have been found abandoned or dead in various places of Odisha recently.

Here are some of the shockers, with two incidents being reported on Friday itself:

#Dead Baby In Sari

Locals found the body of a newborn boy on a roadside near Hudco Colony in Keonjhar town on Friday morning. The body was wrapped in a sari.

Police have started a probe to ascertain whether the baby was a stillborn or abandoned by someone after birth.

#Dogs Devour Severed Head

Locals at Rajaranipada in Bolangir district woke up to the appalling scene of stray dogs feeding on the severed head of an infant on Friday morning.

This incident occurred near a hospital. At least three dogs were captured on camera, while one had the severed head in its jaws. However, it is unclear how the dogs got the newborn’s head.

More shockingly, the locals didn’t even stop the dogs from eating the head.

#Abandoned In Forest

A newborn boy was found abandoned in Nahashola forest near Jahira village in Mayurbhanj district’s Betanati block last Saturday.

According to locals, they had found the baby dumped inside a sack. They rescued the baby and informed Asha Didi for primary treatment.

The newborn weighing 2.1 kg was later admitted in the ICU of Pandit Raghunath Murmu Medical College and Hospital in Mayurbhanj.

#Baby Dumped In Hospital Toilet

The body of a newborn boy was found dumped inside a toilet in the Jagatsinghpur district headquarters hospital last week.

The attendant of a patient spotted the body wrapped in a plastic bag and kept on a toilet pan. The body was retrieved with the help of a hospital sweeper.

Police and hospital authorities were still clueless on who had dumped the dead baby inside the toilet.

#Rescued From Roadside

A woman had rescued an abandoned newborn girl at Maningpadar village near Bhawanipatna in Kalahandi district last month.

The woman had found the baby lying abandoned on a roadside when she was going to attend to nature’s call. She alerted the villagers, who then informed police.

It’s is suspected that the baby was born out of wedlock and the mother may have dumped it to escape social shame.
