Bhubaneswar: A man allegedly pierced his wife’s genital with a liquor bottle after she refused to engage in prostitution in the city’s Chandrasekharpur area.
The woman is battling for her life in a hospital here.
The accused husband, Chandan Acharya, has been arrested.
According to reports, the woman hailed from Tumudibandha in Kandhamal district and Chandan was a native of Pattamundai in Kendrapara district.
They married 10 years ago and had been residing in Bhubaneswar ever since.
After two years of marriage, Chandan forced his wife into a sex racket that he allegedly operated from his house. Last week, the woman refused to be part of the flesh trade any more.
This enraged Chandan, who was inebriated. He thrashed the woman with an iron rod and then inserted a liquor bottle into her genital. Following this, she fell unconscious.
Later, police reached the spot and rescued the woman and her 5-year-old daughter.
