Bhubaneswar: Rising Odisha badminton star Tanvi Patri clinched a double crown, winning both the U-15 and U-17 girls singles titles at the Yonex-Sunrise All India Sub-Junior (U15 & U17) Ranking Badminton Tournament, held at Peddem Sports Complex in Mapusa, Goa from 10 to 17 May 2024.
Seeded second in U-15 singles, Tanvi outclashed top seed Hithaishree L Rajaiah of Karnataka in the final 21-9, 21-10. In the U-17 singles event, unseeded Tanvi eliminated four seeded players on her way to the title triumph. She got the better of 15th seed Rishika Nandi (Delhi) in the final 21-14, 19-21, 21-15.
The tournament was organised by the Goa Badminton Association (GBA), under the aegis of Badminton Association of India (BAI). Tanvi is the reigning National U-13 champion and trains at Prakash Padukone Badminton Academy in Bangalore.
Earlier this year, Tanvi played two junior international tournaments in Europe. She reached girls singles second round at the Dutch Junior International, held in Haarlem, Netherlands from February 28 to March 3 and quarterfinals at the German Junior International that took place in Berlin, Germany from March 6 to 10.
