Odisha Signs MoU To Implement New Technology To Test DL Aspirants; ADTS At 19 RTOs Soon

Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government on Wednesday signed an MoU for implementation of automated driving testing system (ADTS) in the state for testing the driving skill of the aspirants before issuing driving licence (DL).

At present, an applicant has to give the test in the presence of the Motor Vehicle Inspector, who then decides whether the person has ability to drive or not.

The Transport Department will soon upgrade the driving test system by implementing the ADTS on PPP mode under the 5T initiative through Akshara Nipun JV, which has been selected through tendering process, an official release said.

GIRT. Pune has been appointed as consultant to monitor the implementation of the project and to conduct periodic audit of the system, it added.

Once implemented, the aspirant’s driving ability will be judged by the technology and there will be no human intervention. The new system will ensure transparency in the issuance of DLs, it added.

In the first phase, ADTS will be set up in driving testing track of 19 RTOs – Angul. Baripada, Bhadrak. Balangir, Deogarh, Dhenkanal, Ganjam, Nayagarh, Phulbani, Rairangpur, Rourkela. Sundargarh, Talcher, Keonjhar, Malkangiri. Nuapada, Bhanjanagar, Nabarangpur and Sonepur. The new system will feature a state-of-the-art setup, including video analytics technology and vast array of cameras and sensors.

The aspirants will be judged through digital testing track sensors fitted at the track. The scientifically-designed system with multiple high definition cameras will assess the applicants against essential driving skills on parameters like seat belt, path change, lane driving, stop line, up-gradient, forward-8, reverse S and traffic junctions, the release added.
