Bhubaneswar: In a heartwarming musical journey, singer-songwriter Major Saheb, along with music producer Sangeet Patnaiks’s Studio IO, unveiled a captivating version of the cherished lullaby – Re Baiya Dho. What sets this release apart is not just the enchanting melody but also Major’s profound desire to embrace his roots by writing and singing in Odia.
Speaking to Odisha Bytes, Major shared his love for his mother tongue. “There is no other language in which you can express your thoughts better than your mother tongue. Although I am not well versed in Odia, I can express my thoughts freely in the language,” he said.
“I created ‘Re Baiya Dho’ with an intention to evoke the feeling of peace we had in our childhood, and revisit the memories,” said this resident of Bhubaneswar.
As Major Saheb continues to explore and create music inspired by folklore, he not only preserves a part of Odisha’s heritage but also shares it with the world, reminding us of how the power of music binds us to our roots. It is a testament to the enduring magic of music.
This is the dawn of an era for the Odia music industry as independent artistes like Major Saheb have started to the fore. With more and more young artistes coming forward with their originals, Odia songs have begun to rule the hearts of the audience once again with their soulful melodies and relevant yet poetic lyrics.
“Access to the latest technology and the ability to record songs independently is a boon for local artistes,” Sangeet Patnaik told Odisha Bytes. “Independent artistes have been trying to create a community for themselves where they teach each others and grow, Studio IO aims at providing a platform and means to such singers and musicians to showcase their talent to the world” he added.
