Odisha Sizzles: Jharsuguda Touches 41°C Before Noon, Bhubaneswar At 37.6°C

Bhubaneswar: The mercury in Odisha’s industrial town Jharsuguda soared to 41°C by 11.30 am on Tuesday, while Sambalpur and Hirakud recorded 40°C each, indicating the intensity of the day’s heat from the morning itself.

According to a post shared by senior meteorologist Umasankar Das, mercury levels also rose to 37.6°C in Bhubaneswar and 37°C in Rourkela. Balasore and Chandbali recorded 35°C each.

This came a days after maximum tem

peratures crossed 40°C mark at 17 places across the state. Jharsuguda emerged as the hottest place in the state at 43.4°C, Boudh followed closely with 42.8°C, while Angul and Sambalpur recorded 42.3°C each, Hirakud (42°C), Baripada (41.8°C), Nayagarh (41.7°C), Talcher (41.6°C), Kirei in Sundargarh (41.2°C). Bhawanipatna, Balangir, and Titlagarh logged 41.5°C each. High temperatures were also reported in Sonepur (40.8), Sundargarh (40.5°C), Bargarh (40.4°C), Balasore (40.2°C) and Bhadrak and Chiplima at 40°C each.

The twin cities of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack recorded 39°C and 39.6°C respectively. Coastal areas remained relatively cooler, with Puri recording 35.4°C and Gopalpur at 33.6°C.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast further rise in the day temperature by 2-3°C across Odisha over this week.
