Odisha STA Issues Guidelines For Strict Enforcement Of Traffic Rules With Warning To Cancel DL, RC



Bhubaneswar: The State Transport Authority (STA) of Odisha has issued detailed guidelines for strict adherence to traffic rules or risk cancellation of their Driving License (DL) and/or vehicle Registration Certificate (RC).

These guidelines direct officials of the Transport Department to ensure strict enforcement of rules and compliance of directions of the Supreme Court Committee on Road Safety or action will be taken against them.

The circular issued by the STA directs officials to

ensure enforcement of the provisions of Motor Vehicles Act 1988, the Central Motor Vehicles Rules 1989, the Odisha Motor Vehicle Rules 1993 and the directions of the Supreme Court Committee on Road Safety (SCCoRS).

The objective of ensuring strict and uniform adoption of these provisions is to strengthen road safety, enhance accident prevention and ensure effective accountability of drivers and vehicle owners in the state. As per the STA guidelines, defaulters will face suspension or disqualification of their Driving License (DL).

Enforcement officers have been asked to immediately initiate proceedings under Section 206 (4) of the Motor Vehicle Act. Licensing Authorities shall pass orders within prescribed timelines.

All action taken must be recorded in SARATHI/VAHAN portals, as applicable. These guidelines are expected to strengthen road safety with swift action against defaulters.
