Bhubaneswar: The Odisha State Transport Authority (STA) on Monday issued strict instructions to central and state government departments, central and state PSUs, ULBs, industrial houses and individuals against hiring non-transport (private) vehicles.
It added that an FIR will be lodged against hirer of the private vehicle and action will be taken against the owner. It, however, said that non-erring vehicles or individual boarding the non-transport passenger vehicle should not by unduly harassed.
In its circular, the STA highlighted that private passenger carrying vehicles (cars and utility vehicles) are being hired by different entities in gross violation of provisions under MV Act, 1988.
State/central departments, autonomous bodies, individuals can hire and use only motor cabs, maxi cabs and omnibuses which are registered under the transport category. These transport category vehicles can be identified from their customary yellow colour number plates with black colour registration number, it added.
