According to the Higher Education department’s statistics, 62.11 per cent of teaching posts, which include professors and associate professors, are lying vacant in 11 State-run varsities. Out of the sanctioned strength of 1,662 professors, associate professors and assistant professors, 1,033 posts are vacant.

According to a report in The New Indian Express, no teaching staff has been posted yet at the newly-established Kalahandi University and Rajendra University, Balangir.

The varsity has a staggering 73.91 per cent vacant seats. Among the government-sanctioned 138 teaching posts, 102 are yet to be filled in the university.

Ravenshaw University, Cuttack, has 72 per cent of the teaching positions which are lying vacant. Out of 267 professor, associate professors and assistant professors posts, 193 are lying vacant in the university. The Ravenshaw University has been operating with only four professors against the approved strength of 29.

Bhubaneswar’s Utkal University has 49 per cent of teaching posts lying vacant. The Higher Education department statistics show 126 are lying vacant out of 257 posts in the university.

Out of the sanctioned 47 professor posts in the oldest varsity of Odisha, only 12 vacancies have been filled.
