Sambalpur: A 16-year-old student in Odisha’s Sambalpur district attempted suicide after a retired lecturer allegedly slapped him for not returning Rs 10,000, which he had borrowed from him.
According to police sources, the boy felt humiliated when the retired lecturer of Jamankira College slapped him in his classroom full of students at BRG Plus-II College in Bhojpur, on Monday.

The boy, who also runs a paan shop in the area, was supposed to pay back the loan with interest.
“The matter is being probed and a case will be registered,” Kuchinda police station IIC Sobhakara Seth said.
