Bhubaneswar: Activists of the student wing of Congress gheraoed the residence of legislator Sushant Singh in Bhubaneswar on Monday, demanding that the ruling BJD leader be brought within the purview of probe into the murder of Naba Kishore Das.
During the protest, staged under the banner of National Students’ Union of India (NSUI), the activists hurled tomatoes at the official residence of the ruling BJD MLA and former Minister.
As the protesters proceeded to storm into the official residence of the ex-Minister, police stopped them on the way, leading to a scuffle between the two sides for some time.
Shouting slogans against the legislator, the demonstrators alleged, “Since Sushant Singh had enmity with the then health minister Naba Das, he is suspected to have some links with the murder case.”
They clamoured for bringing Sushant Singh under the purview of the ongoing investigation into the mysterious murder. “He should be brought under the probe and call recorded on his cell phone should be examined,” shouted youth leader Yasir Nawaz.
Later, the demonstrators marched towards the state Assembly building to stage protests over the issue. A scuffle also broke out between the protesters and police personnel near the Assembly building when the cops tried to stop the demonstrators from proceeding.
