Odisha Submits Preliminary Report On Post-Cyclone Restoration & Damage

Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government, which submitted a preliminary report on the post-cyclone restoration and damage to the Centre on Saturday, said that it will submit the final report by May 26.

Following is the highlights of the preliminary reports:

Impact
—Out of the 10 affected districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Kendrapada, Jagatsinghpur, Mayurbhanj, Cuttack, Jajpur, Keonjhar, Khordha, and Puri, four districts i.e., Balasore, Bhadrak, Kendrapada and Jagatsinghpur have been severely affected.

—A total of 44,44,896 people in 9833 villages of 1558 gram panchayats in 92 blocks and 272 wards in 22 Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) of 10 districts have been affected.

—8,72,049 livestock have been affected.

—About 500 houses have been fully damaged and 15000 houses partially damaged.

—28 large animals, 9 small animal, and 3680 poultry birds have perished.

However, no confirmed case of human casualty reported so far.

Response
—About 2,00,346 people were evacuated to safe shelters.

—210 mobile medical teams and 75 veterinary teams have been deployed in the affected areas

—79 veterinary doctors and 310 para-vets and attendants engaged.

—32 animal health camps have been organised and 1242 animal treated and 900 vaccinated.

Damage Assessment and Restoration
—House damage enumeration is going on in full swing and expected to be completed by May 26.

—All government officials engaged in damage assessment and restoration activities are not allowed to avail any public holidays till the assessment and restoration works are completed.

Energy
—34 km of 33 KV lines, 453 km of 11 KV lines, 680 km of LT lines and 2439 number of Distribution Transformers have been damaged.

—Power restored in the house of 85% affected consumers. The restoration is in full swing and complete restoration is expected by 23rd May 2020.

Telecom Sector
—4930 telecom sites are fully/partially damaged in Balasore, Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapara and Mayurbhanj districts.

—90 mobile sites have already been made functional.

Agriculture

—About 1 lakh hectares of standing crops damaged.

Drinking water
—No major damages have been reported.

—93% piped water supply already operational with power supply restoration in rural areas.

—Power supplies to all affected piped water supply points are expected to be restored by May 23.

—Water supply with alternate power system is already going on and as such all consumers are getting water supplies.

—81 water tankers engaged for drinking water supply.

—In urban areas, the power supply has been restored to 376 pump houses out of 401 affected and 25 DG sets are being engaged for the remaining pump houses to ensure continuous water supply.

Fishery
—14  boats fully damaged, 41 boats partially damaged and 41 fishing nets fully damaged.

Forest
—4000 trees uprooted in Cuttack and Balasore Wildlife Division.

—2000 Casurina trees uprooted in Astarang Range in Puri district.

Road
—2592 fallen trees removed and all 290 blocked rural roads have been cleared.

—151.05 km of roads and embankment and 42 culverts and bridges have been damaged

Buildings
—646  Anganwadi Centres, 1552 Primary School buildings and 298 Gram Panchayat buildings and community halls have been damaged.

Deployment of disaster response forces

—19 NDRF teams, 12 ODRAF teams, 156 Fire Service teams and two teams of Odisha Forest Development Corporation (OFDC) have been deployed in the affected districts for clearance of supply lines.
