Bhubaneswar: After a gap of three years, the tableau from Odisha is now all set to get roll down the Kartavya Path in New Delhi during Republic Day parade this year. The Centre has shortlisted the state’s proposal depicting the artist village of Raghurajpur for participation.
Sources said that a communication from the Ministry of Defence has been sent to the Chief Secretary confirming participation of the state tableau.
The tableau model has been designed by noted sculptor Kirti Kishore Maharana and painter Gajendra Sahu. Presenting the Raghurajpur craft village and messages of women empowerment, the tableau will also have a Sambalpuri song to go along with it.
The tableaux proposals of a total of 15 states and one union territory have been shortlisted for the Republic Day Parade 2024. Apart from Odisha, the tableaux of Andhra Pradesh, Arunachal Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Gujarat, Haryana, Jharkhand, Ladakh (UT), Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Manipur, Meghalaya, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Telangana and Uttar Pradesh will be displayed at the 75th Republic Day Parade in New Delhi.
As per the instructions, the activities for the fabrication of the tableau should commence immediately at Rashtriya Rangshala Camp in New Delhi. The tableau should be fabricated by January 19 ahead of the full-dress rehearsal of the Republic Day Parade scheduled on January 23.
Tableaux are an important part of the Republic Day parade every year as they display the diverse culture and traditions of different states and union territories when the parade passes on the Kartavya Path.
The selection of tableaux is a well-established process that involves an expert committee comprising eminent persons from various disciplines such as art, culture, painting, sculpture, music, architecture, choreography, and so on. The panel of experts is directed by the Ministry of Defence.
