Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government is targeting to vaccinate a majority of the state’s population to avoid a severe third wave, Health and Family Welfare Director Bijay Panigrahy said on Tuesday.
“The vaccination is being carried in a campaign mode since yesterday. More number of vaccination centres have been set up and we target to inoculate 3 lakh people a day,” he said.
On Monday, a record 3,32,717 doses of both Covishield and Covaxin vaccines were administered to people aged 18 years and above at 1,613 vaccination centres. across the state. This was the highest number of doses administered in a day since the vaccination drive was rolled out on January 16.
“The drive has begun at 1250 centres today and more will be added to it,” he said.
According to CoWin dashboard, 1,74,128 had received the doses at 1420 sites till 3.30 pm on Tuesday.
Panigrahy said that 6.98 lakh Covishield doses and 4.30 lakh Covaxin shots are in stock. “This will be adequate for the three two to three days and we are expecting 1.74 lakh Covishield vaccines to arrive today,” he said.
He added the Centre would be sending vaccines on regular basis and this will allow the state to achieve its 3 lakh vaccination a day target.
