Balangir: A teacher of a school was taken into custody by the police in Odisha’s Balangir district for allegedly sending objectionable messages to a girl student.
The incident was reported from a government school at Limpada under the jurisdiction of Sindhekela police station in Titlagarh block of the district.
The accused teacher has been identified as Teker Singh Majhi (28) of Badpatrapali village, who teaches mathematics in the school.
According to the complaint lodged by the girl’s family, the teacher began sending objectionable messages to the Class X student a few months ago.
It was alleged that the teacher also telephoned the girl repeatedly and asked her to meet him alone in the school library. When she refused, he allegedly assaulted her. The girl initially remained silent out of fear.
The girl’s parents are staying in Tamil Nadu for work, while she lives with her uncle’s family in the village. After learning about the matter, her uncle went to the school and asked the teacher to refrain from harassing the girl.
Later, the girl’s uncle collected the chat records and other evidence from the mobile phone and lodged a written complaint at Sindhekela police station.
Based on the complaint, police registered a case and launched an investigation. The accused teacher was subsequently into custody. Further investigation is in progress.
