Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government will celebrate state-level local Self-Government Day from this year.
The decision was taken on Friday at a meeting presided by Odisha’s Housing & Urban Development Minister Dr Krushnachandra Mahapatra.
The meeting, held at the minister’s chamber in the State Assembly, discussed the proposal in detail, and decided to organise various programmes.
Housing & Urban Development department Principal Secretary Usha Padhee, Special Secretary Debashis Singh, Additional Secretary Rabindrakumar Sahu, BMC Additional Commissioner Subhendu Sahu and other departmental officers attended the meeting.
Dr Mohapatra suggested that Self-Government Day should be observed in a different way, rather than the usual pattern.
Various projects will be dedicated in all 115 ULBs of the state, several competitions will be organised and awards and certificates will be given to the contestants.
After the meeting, Principal Secretary Padhee connected with the Commissioners and Executive Officers of all ULBs, including 5 Municipal Corporations through video conferencing, and directed them to make arrangements according to the schedule.
She also advised them to celebrate Local Self Government Day by involving everyone with determination and sincerity.
