Odisha To Combine Mamata & PM Matru Vandana Schemes, ₹12K On Birth Of Girl Child

Bhubaneswar: The Mohan Majhi government has decided to co-brand and implement Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana alongside Mamata Yojana in Odisha.

Under this initiative, pregnant women will receive Rs 10,000 on the birth of a boy child and an additional Rs 2,000 on the birth of a girl child.

This decision was taken to improve the health of pregnant and postpartum women and encourage the birth of girl children, the CMO release said on Tuesday.

It further stated that assistance will be provided for a maximum of two children, but this limit will not apply to Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups (PVTGs).

The government also announced an increase in the compensation for Anganwadi workers assisting in the registration of expectant mothers and doing follow-ups after delivery from Rs 200 to Rs 250. Anganwadi helpers will receive Rs 150 instead of Rs 50.

The estimated cost for the combined implementation of both schemes is approximately Rs 511 crore for the next financial year. The central government will provide Rs 115.97 crore and the state’s contribution will be Rs 395.75 crore.

This initiative is expected to benefit around 450,000 pregnant and lactating women, it added.
