Odisha To Face Hot & Humid Weather Amid Thunderstorm/Rain For 5 Days; Yellow Warning By IMD

Bhubaneswar: Many parts of Odisha are likely to encounter thunderstorm coupled with rain and gusty surface wind for the next 4-5 days, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said on Sunday.

At the same time, hot and humid conditions are likely to prevail in several parts of the state for the next five days, the Meteorological Centre in Bhubaneswar said in its midday bulletin.

It further said that the Southwest Monsoon advanced into some parts of Maldives and the Comorin area and some parts of the south Bay of Bengal, Nicobar Islands, and South Andaman Sea.

As already stated, a low-pressure area will likely form over the southwest Bay of Bengal around Wednesday. It will likely move northeast-wards and concentrate into a depression over central parts of the Bay of Bengal around Friday.

The weather agency issued yellow alerts for rain and thunderstorm in several districts for the next five days. At the same time hot and humid weather conditions will prevail in many districts.

During the next 24 hours, light to moderate rain/thundershowers are very likely to occur at one or two places in south Odisha, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Dhenkanal, Angul, Jajpur, and Bhadrak.

Yellow warning was issued for thunderstorms with lightning at one or two places in Balasore, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Kalahandi, Nabarangpur, Koraput, Malkangiri, and Rayagada during the period.

Similarly, hot and humid weather conditions are very likely to prevail at one or two places in Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, and Gajapati.

On May 20, light to moderate rain/thundershowers are likely to occur at one or two places in south Odisha, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Dhenkanal, Jajpur, Bhadrak.

Yellow warning was sounded for thunderstorms with lightning at some places in Malkangiri, Koraput, Kandhamal, Balangir, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, and Dhenkanal.

Hot and humid weather conditions are very likely to prevail at one or two places in Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, and Gajapati.

On May 21, light to moderate rain/thundershowers may occur at a few places in north interior Odisha, Jajpur, and Cuttack and one or two places in Rayagada, Ganjam, Gajapati, Kandhamal, Nayagarh, and Kalahandi.

Yellow warning was issued for thunderstorms with lightning accompanied by gusty surface wind speeds reaching 30-40 kmph at one or two places in Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, and Mayurbhanj.

Heatwave conditions are very likely to occur in one or two places in Nuapada, Bolangir, Bargarh, Jharsuguda, and Sundargarh.
