Bhubaneswar: Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) plans to install 1,000 new 4G mobile towers in Odisha this year as part of efforts to strengthen mobile connectivity across urban and rural areas of the state.
Out of these, 960 mobile towers are proposed to be installed across different cities and rural areas of Odisha, while 40 towers will be set up in Bhubaneswar, According to Chief General Manager of BSNL in Odisha, D K Behera.
The expansion is expected to improve network coverage and provide better telecommunications services, particularly in areas with limited connectivity.
This apart, high-speed internet services will also be provided to more than 5,000 secondary schools, over 1,100 primary health centres and over 6,500 secondary health centres in the state.
The move is aimed to strengthen digital access for students, healthcare workers and people in rural and underserved areas.
The expansion plan is being implemented under the Digital Bharat Nidhi (DBN), with the Odisha government bearing the required expenses for the project.
Officials said the installation of all the new mobile towers is expected to be completed by March 2027.
