Bhubaneswar: Odisha Cabinet on Wednesday approved a proposal for upgrading government-run primary schools as model schools in all panchayats of the state under Godabarish Mishra Adarsh Prathamik Vidyalaya (GMAPV) scheme.
The Cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi decided that these model primary schools will come up in 6,794 panchayats across the state.
The financial implication on account of establishment of model primary schools will be Rs 11,939 crore over five years from 2024-25 to 2028-29. The rough cost estimate per school ranges from Rs one crore to Rs four crore depending on the number of enrolments in the school.
However, actual expenditure will be based on the detailed project report (DPR for each school, the Chief Minister informed after the Cabinet meeting.
He further stated that every high school will be smart under the Adarsha Vidayalaya Yojana.
Majhi claimed that transformation of smart schools in the name of 5T was not done in a proper manner as no DPR was prepared or estimate was being done. It was like playing with the future of students, he said.
Therefore, it has now been decided to set up Adarsh Vidyalayas in each panchayat. In the first phase, it will be set up in 114 panchayats, says the CM.
The Chief Minister further informed the Finance Commission of India will visit the State on February 5. A proposal of the State Finance Department was discussed in today’s Cabinet meeting to present a demand of Rs 12,56,148 Crore before the Finance Commission.
A total of 10 proposals got the approval of the state Cabinet at the meeting.
